Transformational technologies in libraries

March 28, 2011

When I interviewed here at McMaster, I was asked to speak on the topic of transformational technologies in libraries. Generally, I think the phrase “transformational technology” is overapplied by a tech-enraptured press, so I geared my talk toward making distinctions between cool and transformational.

Nice to see a Presi presentation that didn’t make me seasick! (obviously, I didn’t hear this talk but that’s a good sign).

One of these days, I’ll learn prezi, too. I wanna be a cool kid.

This was apparently a post that attracted readers named Jennifer. Wonder how I did that.

Jen – thanks for the props. I avoid using Prezi’s rotational abilities as much as I can, since that does lead to motion sickness. Judiciously used, it has great value, but maybe once or twice in a talk, tops.

J – once I figured out the basics (which is easier now than when I learned due to improvements) I found that I can create much faster in Prezi than in PowerPoint; a lot of that has to do with surrendering using too much text.
